Chemistry
This is a collection of resources and things for anyone interested in looking into more chemistry as an A-Level Student.
Cambridge Chemistry Challenge (C3L6)
c3l6 is a chemistry exam taken at the end of year 12 (or year 11 if ambitious). The test in generally easier than the Chemistry Olympiad and generally doesn’t cover almost any organic synthesis beyond A-Level.
The top 60-70 students are given a roentgenium award and invited to a week long camp at Cambridge during the summer, this includes both lectures and practical work.
UK Chemistry Olympiad
The UK Chemistry Olympiad is the national selection competition for the International Chemistry Olympiad. It begins with a challenging first round, sat in schools across the country. The top ~30 students are then invited to a residential camp, which features advanced lectures and two demanding four-hour examinations: one practical and one theoretical.
Round 1 is significantly more difficult than standard A-level Chemistry (C3L6). Successful candidates for Round 2 typically score 55+ marks. The paper often includes complex organic synthesis problems well beyond the A-level syllabus, requiring a deeper understanding of Organic Chemistry. In addition, some questions are highly mathematical, making them particularly rewarding for candidates more mathematically inclined.
Ahead of Round 2, students are given pre-reading from Chemistry: Structure and Reactivity and sent the official preparatory problems for the International Chemistry Olympiad.
